Basic Emotion Prototypes in English and in Polish

Abstract This paper explores the conceptualization differences between prototypical categories of six basic emotions ( anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, surprise ) in English and Polish lexicalizations these concepts noun, verb, adjective forms. Measures valence, arousal, dominance were collected analyzed across semantic categories, parts speech depending on gender study participants for both languages. The results indicate that emotion prototypes languages have common characteristics hinging broadly valence but unique language-specific patterns individual categories. Conceptualizations found to be different men women languages, while part-of-speech effects. These serious implications future designs research methodology at intersection cognition, emotion, language cross-linguistic contexts.
